Before leaving office, Obama warned President Trump that North Korea, the bane of civilized nations, will be a growing and immediate threat to American national security and foreign policy.
The danger the rogue regime poses to America revolves around the communist leadership’s pursuit of nuclear weapons and delivery vehicles. Following Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s visit of Japan and other parts of Asia, it has become apparent the danger is increasing.
The UK’s Sun newspaper quotes White House national security adviser KT McFarland as saying, “There is a real possibility that North Korea will be able to hit the US with a nuclear-armed missile by the end of the first Trump term.”
A North Korean officer quoted by the Sun has stated that a March 25 test of missile capable of hitting the United States showed progress.
“The North showed off improved engine efficiency in a test last Saturday, and it will now focus on perfecting a long-range re-entry vehicle to make an operational ICBM.”
If true, and it must be taken with a huge grain of salt, than the news would mean that an irrational dictator is closer to a “first strike capability”.
This should be worrying. As a North Korean defector told NBC’s Lester Holt on April 2, “Once he sees that there is any kind of sign of a tank or an imminent threat from America, then he would use his nuclear weapons with ICBM.”
Trump has said if no one will take care of North Korea, he will.
