Liberals were left terrified this week when Senator Chuck Grassley when he predicted that Donald Trump will be appointing someone else to the Supreme Court. This comes just weeks after Trump appointed Neil Gorsuch to replace Antonin Scalia.
The Hill reported that Grassley, who is chairman of the Judiciary Committee, told reporters that there is a “rumored” upcoming retirement that could come as early as this summer, but declined to say which justice he expects to step down.
“I would expect a resignation this summer,” Grassley said, adding that Trump’s next nominee will likely come off the list of roughly two dozen names Trump announced before taking over the White House.
Liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and conservative Justice Anthony Kennedy are now in their 80s, while left-leaning Justice Stephen Breyer is 78.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who is also on the Judiciary Committee, has also said that he expects a Supreme Court Justice to retire this summer.
“I think we’re likely to see another vacancy potentially as soon as this summer. I think we’ll see another vacancy either this summer or next summer,” Cruz said.
