The city of Los Angeles is in mourning after a 15 year-old boy was killed and two other teens were critically wounded in a shooting near a series of schools.
The LA Times reported that ten gunshots were heard just before 4pm in South Los Angeles at a strip mall near 60th Street and Vermont Avenue. The mall is located near John Muir Middle School and Augustus Hawkins High School.
The victims have only been identified as two boys and one girl, and two of them remain in the hospital at this time.
“School had just gotten out, so there was a lot of people out here and a lot of potential victims,” LAPD Deputy Chief Phillip Tingirides told KTLA-TV. “We have three that were hit and I’m just grateful there weren’t more that were hit.”
The gunman, who remains at large, is believed to be a black male wearing jeans and a hooded sweatshirt. Few other details are available.
