The recent decision by Ivanka Trump to join her father in the White House as an unpaid advisor has put the Left and the media into fits apoplexy.
Cries of nepotism echo throughout the capital and apparently exist in a vacuum of double standards.
The Washington Examiner justly points out an icon of the Left, John F. Kennedy, appointed his brother Attorney General during his Presidency.
The Examiner writes, “Ivanka Trump’s role as an ‘assistant’ in the White House pales in comparison to the power of the attorney general. Do her critics also find Kennedy’s decision appalling? Were Twitter at their fingertips in the early 1960s, would they have issued the same breathless denouncements of him?”
That’s a great question.
I would add “Are not the spouses of President’s unofficial advisors, some with more invested powers than others?” Two come to mind; Eleanor Roosevelt and Hillary Clinton.
The Examiner answers its own question by stating, “If Ivanka Trump serving as an assistant to her father is nepotism, so too is nominating your brother to run the entire Justice Department.”
