One thing that has been held against Trump is that he often speaks in generalities and can be obscure on his stance on certain issues.
He has finally cleared up his position on gun rights, having released it officially on his website.
“The Second Amendment to our Constitution is clear. The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed upon. Period,” the position paper began.
Trump noted that the government cannot take away this right as it pre-existed the government and Constitution.
He proposes tougher enforcement of existing laws rather than bringing in new ones.
Citing a successful program in Richmond, Virginia, that sentenced gun criminals to mandatory minimum five-year sentences in federal prison, Trump noted that crime rates will fall dramatically when criminals are taken off the streets for lengthy periods of time.
He also wants to expand and strengthen laws concerning law abiding gun owners defending themselves from criminals.
He wants to remove mentally ill people from the streets and wants to do away with pointless bans on extended clips etc.
He wants a national right to carry, as well as lifting the rule prohibiting military members carrying weapons while on base.
